Specification of Pasir Silika Halus / Pasir Silica Halus
Silica sand or quartz sand is a mineral consisting of silica crystals (SiO2) and contains impurities which are carried during the deposition process. Quartz sand, also known as white sand, is the result of weathering of rocks containing the main minerals, such as quartz and feldspar. The results of weathering are then washed away and carried away by water or wind and deposited on the banks of rivers, lakes or seas.
Silica sand has a combined composition of SiO2, Fe2O3, Al2O3, TiO2, CaO, MgO, and K2O, translucent white in color or other colors depending on the impurity compound, hardness 7 (Mohs scale), specific gravity 2.65, melting point 1715 C, crystal form hexagonal, specific heat 0.185, and heat conductivity 12-1000C.
In industrial activities the use of silica sand has been widely developed, both directly as the main raw material and as a secondary ingredient. As the main raw material, for example used in the glass industry, cement, tiles, ceramic mosaics, ferrosilicon raw materials, silicon carbide abrasive materials (abrasive and sandblasting). Meanwhile, as a follow-up material, for example in the casting industry, the oil and mining industry, refractory (refractory) bricks, and so on.
