Specification of Caustic Soda Flakes China 98% (Soda Api)
Sodium hydroxide (NaOH), also known as caustic soda, caustic soda, or sodium hydroxide, is a type of caustic metallic base. Sodium Hydroxide is formed from the basic oxide Sodium Oxide is dissolved in water. Sodium hydroxide forms a strong alkaline solution when dissolved in water. It is used in a wide variety of industrial fields, mostly as a base in the production of wood pulp and paper, textiles, drinking water, soaps and detergents. Sodium hydroxide is the most commonly used base in chemistry laboratories.
Pure sodium hydroxide is a white solid and is available in the form of pellets, flakes, granules or a 50% saturated solution commonly called Sorensen's solution. It is moisture-liquid and spontaneously absorbs carbon dioxide from free air. It is very soluble in water and will release heat when dissolved, because in the process of dissolving it in water it reacts exothermically. It is also soluble in ethanol and methanol, although the solubility of NaOH in these two liquids is less than that of KOH. It is insoluble in diethyl ether and other non-polar solvents. Sodium hydroxide solution will leave yellow stains on fabrics and paper.
